‘My Home Is Here’: Valletta’s Luxury Hotel Entrepreneur Posts Tribute To Capital’s Football Team Following Relegation
Valletta might’ve just suffered a disappointing, historic relegation after nearly a century in the Premier League… but a moment like this has only brought its supporters closer together.
“A sad day as Valletta FC are relegated,” wrote Mark Weingard, the philanthropist and entrepreneur behind Iniala, the club’s main shirt sponsor. “Let’s hope we bounce back next year.”
Originally from Manchester, Weingard has recently made Malta his home, investing in a number of luxury offerings with Valletta’s boutique hotel at the helm of it all. And whether it’s sitting in one of the Shark Tank Malta chairs or supporting the capital city’s football club, it’s clear to see just how close to his heart the islands are.
“Proud to be a Valletta boy,” Weingard wrote. “My business is here, my home is here and my local team is here.”

This weekend, Valletta FC suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Naxxar which saw them being relegated for the first time in their long history.
In fact, while the club has been around for 118 years and has been relegated once a century ago, the Valletta FC most of us know has technically been around for 81 years, since 1943. And in that time, the club has always competed in the highest tier of local football, making this weekend’s crushing news all that more disappointing.
However, in the face of new challenges such as next season’s, it looks like this adversity has only brought Valletta’s fiercest supporters even closer.
