During the week, popular British real estate reality TV show “A Place In The Sun” made its way to our sunny little island to revisit a British man who found his Maltese dream home through the programme 11 years ago.

Hosted by the charming Sara Damergi, the Channel 4 programme, which is now in its 20th season and has been airing since 2002, helps house-hunters find their dream home in the sun.

Speaking to Lovin Malta, presenter Damergi said, “11 years ago, we were filming the show in December over here. We helped Chris buy a property in Buġibba. 11 years later, we’re coming to find out how life is and how he’s getting on.”

Damergi had just landed on the island and expressed her excitement at meeting Chris, whom she had last seen just over a decade ago.

Back in 2015, Chris Grandison and his grandmother Pat embarked on a house-hunting journey with the Channel 4 series, where Chris found his dream Mediterranean home in the coastal village of Buġibba.

Chris was looking for a two-bedroom house that he could rent out when he’s not there. He had a budget of £70,000.

Speaking to the newsroom, presenter Damergi detailed Chris’ ties to the island, explaining how his grandfather was a paratrooper in Malta during the Second World War.

During this period, Chris’ mother Kerry was born on the island, further solidifying the British family’s ties to Malta. Having spent a long period on the island, Chris’ grandmother Pat, who was seen house-hunting with Chris in the 2015 programme, has a few favourite spots.

That being said, her ultimate favourite one is Ta’ Pinu in Gozo. In fact, while Lovin Malta journalist Clara spoke to Damergi, she was on her way to Gozo, accompanied by Chris himself – more accurately, the pair was waiting in the queue to board the Gozo Channel ferry to the sister island.

“Sadly, his grandmother couldn’t be with us today because she is unwell, however, we will be giving her a video call from Ta’ Pinu.”

When asked when the revisit will be airing on Channel 4, Sara explained that it “will probably come out early next year, but we don’t have an exact transmission date at the moment.”

“I have a friend in Malta, I have spent New Year here a couple of times and I spend holidays here. I love the island very much,” the presenter expressed.

In a hilarious Instagram story, Damergi explained how as soon as she landed in Malta, there was a power cut on the island which eventually led to her being stuck at the airport car park in a traffic standstill – it really doesn’t get more Maltese than that, does it?

In her story, the half-British, half-Lebanese presenter went on to say how much the island reminds her of her home country Lebanon, given the frequency of power cuts.

Are you excited to see how Chris is faring on the island? Will you be tuning in to watch the episode?
