Reports have come in of a large fire in the fields between San Gwann and Naxxar. So far there are no details as to how the fire was started, but the police have said they are aware of the situation.
Sources said the fire has broken out in the parking area that served as a storage area. The old Arriva bendy buses were taken off the roads in August 2013 after seven separate incidents of buses catching fire while on duty. Arriva was later replaced by a Spanish service provider which now runs Malta Public Transport. The bendy buses were meant to be sold to Sudan but the sale fell through and have instead been kept in a San Gwann scrapyard for years
Photos have been sent in showing large plumes of black smoke billowing out from the area.
