Ħaż-Żebbuġ could have two independent councillors from the same family.

Steve Zammit Lupi, an environment and cycling activist, has made a name for himself as an independent councillor in recent years and now his mother Elizabeth is joining him on the ballot.

21-year-old Joel Chircop is also contesting the election as an independent, which means Ħaż-Zebbuġ now has three independent candidates, more than any other town.

They will be contesting against seven PL candidates and five PN candidates for nine spots on the council, which is currently run by the Labour Party.

Ħaż-Zebbuġ will certainly have a new mayor in June as incumbent Mark Camilleri has decided not to re-contest the election.

Will you vote for the Zammit Lupis?
