Balluta Bay Fit For Bathing After Three Months

Article Featured Image

The health warning on Balluta Bay in St Julian’s has been lifted after almost three months. The Environmental Health Directorate announced this earlier today, stating that after taking multiple samples of the sea water, it was deemed fit for swimming.

In May 12th, the Directorate had warned the public to not swim in this area due to contamination of E. Coli. The Health Ministry chalked up the cause of the contamination to a stormwater tunnel that flowed into the sea. In June 1st, another statement was released saying that Balluta Bay is still not healthy to bathe in.

Balluta Bay wasn’t the only bay contaminated this year, with St George’s Bay, Tal-Għażżenin and other. Most of which have now also been deemed healthy for swimming.
