A health warning has been issued for waters at Wied iż-Żurrieq due to water contamination.

The Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health issued a statement to notify the public that bathing is not recommended in the area due to a recent sewage overflow into the sea from cesspits belonging to private property.

Although the overflow has now stopped, the incident may have impacted bathing water quality and could pose a potential risk to public health. As a precautionary measure, the public is advised to avoid swimming in the area until the water quality is confirmed to be safe.

Officials from the Environmental Health Directorate are currently monitoring the situation, and investigations are ongoing. The duration of the contamination cannot be determined at this time, but updates will be issued as necessary.

For further information, the public is kindly requested to contact the Environmental Health Directorate between 8am and 2.30pm on telephone number 21337333 or by email on [email protected]. The public is also being invited to access the Directorate’s Facebook page, their official website or the EHD Bathing Portal on for similar information.
