A video has emerged showing workers at the Sliema Promenade sweeping soapy chemical residues directly into the sea while cleaning the area.

The footage has been referred to as “a blatant disregard for environmental regulations”, sparking serious concerns about potential repercussions on marine life and the overall ecosystem.

The act, recorded by a passer-by, has quickly gone viral, inciting criticism and calls for accountability from the public and environmental enthusiasts.

However, upon reaching out to Sliema Mayor John Pillow, he confirmed that the detergent used is “eco-friendly”.

“It’s eco-friendly detergent, I confirmed with Clean Malta myself. It won’t harm the sea,” Pillow told Lovin Malta.
