Customers can simply view the deals or register to the platform for free. Those who register could win extra special deals as the Chamber will randomly select a number of registered people per day and email them up to two vouchers with special discounts.

Mamo said that while shopping from overseas used to be more convenient up until a few years ago, the tables have turned now that so many Maltese businesses have their own websites and delivery systems too.

“Unlike items purchased from overseas, items purchased locally can be delivered to you from one day to the next and if you don’t like the product, you can easily return it too,” she said. “Many people used to purchase online from the UK, but since Brexit, those purchases are no longer covered by EU consumer laws.

As for Black Friday itself, while the day is a traditional American concept for the first Friday after Thanksgiving, it has picked up steam in Malta in recent years.

“November used to be a dead month for business, but eventually Black Friday started picking up overseas and many Maltese consumers would even go abroad to benefit from the offers. The Chamber has been hyping Black Friday for six years now, and in terms of sales it’s become as good a month as December, if not even better.”
