This Christmas, Choose Local And Support Malta’s Artisans
As the festive season approaches, the Malta Crafts Foundation is encouraging the public to make their Christmas gifting more meaningful by choosing handmade creations from Maltese artisans through its #ChooseLocal campaign.
The Foundation is inviting people to look beyond mass produced items and choose gifts with a story. Locally crafted pieces support traditional skills, safeguard cultural heritage and contribute directly to the livelihoods of artisans.
From ceramics and glass to jewellery, textiles, woodwork and several other crafts, artisanal gifts are often unique and can even be personalised. This makes them thoughtful and memorable presents for loved ones.
By highlighting the work of local artisans, the Foundation hopes to remind the public that some of the most heartfelt gifts can be found close to home.
Santa’s Workshop At Ta’ Dbieġi Artisan Village
One of the highlights of this year’s Christmas initiatives is the annual Santa’s Workshop event at the Ta’ Dbieġi Artisan Village in Gozo.
The event will be held on Saturday 13th December, from 10am to 4pm, and entry is free of charge.
On this day, artisans open their workshops, hold demonstrations and display a curated selection of handmade products. Visitors can explore the village, meet craftspeople and browse gifts in a festive setting.
The event will also feature seasonal treats, roaming characters, family friendly entertainment and a treasure hunt with the chance to win a €100 voucher to spend on artisanal gifts.
Artisan Markets Across Malta And Gozo
The Foundation is also coordinating several artisan markets across the islands to give the public more opportunities to shop local this Christmas.
Fairyland, located at the entrance to Valletta from 5th December 2025 to 4th January 2026, will feature wooden market chalets hosting artisans within a Christmas village atmosphere filled with entertainment, food stalls and festive décor.
Rigal b’Imħabba, held in Castille Square between 15th and 24th December 2025, will once again collect gifts for vulnerable children who may otherwise miss out on receiving a present this Christmas. The surrounding artisan market will offer visitors a convenient way to pick up handmade gifts in the heart of Valletta.
Whether you visit artisan villages such as Ta’ Qali and Ta’ Dbieġi, or markets around the islands, choosing local supports the creativity and dedication of Maltese artisans.
This Christmas, make your gifts count. Choose Local and celebrate the beauty and craftsmanship behind every Maltese made present.
