Watch: Valletta Lights Up As Christmas In The Capital Officially Begins

Valletta has officially kicked off the festive season as the capital’s Christmas lights were switched on during a special ceremony in Pjazza Ħelsien on Tuesday evening. The event marked the launch of this year’s Christmas in the Capital programme, a month-long celebration packed with activities, performances and festive attractions.

The ceremony was led by Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici, together with Valletta Cultural Agency Chairperson Jason Micallef, Valletta Mayor Olaf McKay, artist Henry Galea and his team, as well as Bay Radio presenters Jamie and Taryn.

During the event, Valletta’s main streets were illuminated with Christmas lights, and the city’s iconic Christmas tree was lit up, drawing crowds who gathered to witness the start of the festive season. The switch-on created a magical atmosphere across the capital, with the decorations transforming Valletta into a glowing Christmas backdrop.

The festive launch serves as the opening to Christmas in the Capital, an annual programme featuring a full month of events designed to bring joy, entertainment and community spirit to Valletta during the holiday season.
