Wham!’s Last Christmas Secures Festive Number One Spot Two Years In A Row
Wham! has done it again!
The iconic duo’s Last Christmas has made chart history by taking the coveted Christmas number one spot for the second year in a row – nearly 40 years after its original release in 1984.
Andrew Ridgeley, one half of the legendary duo, said his late bandmate George Michael, who tragically passed away on Christmas Day in 2016, would have been “utterly delighted” that the song has become such a timeless festive classic.
“Thirty-seven years to get to number one, 39 years to Christmas number one, and then like London buses, they all come along at once!” Ridgeley joked.
Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You took third place this year, celebrating its own milestone of 30 years.
Over on the Albums Chart, US pop star Sabrina Carpenter stole the Christmas top spot with her album Short N’ Sweet, narrowly beating festive king Michael Bublé, who settled for second place.
So, are you team Last Christmas or All I Want For Christmas Is You?
