‘L-Aħħar Bidwi’ Singer Marija Bellia Spills The Tea On Her X Factor Elimination
“X Factor may have lost me, but my work will still be around for you to enjoy”, wrote the recently-eliminated X Factor contestant Marija Bellia, who went viral for her rendition of L-Aħħar Bidwi.
Lovin Malta reached out to the singer to get the details on Maria’s experience on the show.
“The first time round I entered the competition simply for the experience and did not through to the Live Shows. This year, I was in it to win it… and still did not manage to get through”, the singer admitted.
Sadly, the X Factor veteran was eliminated during the Judge’s Houses by the Girls’ Category judge Gianluca Bezzina, missing her chance to perform during the Live Shows for the second time round.
Many commentators expressed their disappointment at the Judge’s decision, with one user writing “I expected better from Gianluca” and another telling the singer that he has “instantly undermined” his “credibility as a judge and mentor” when the Judge decided not to take Marija to the live shows.
Marija revealed that after her elimination, Gianluca talked to her outside of the theatre and told her that she “will succeed as an artist without needing X Factor”.
She also told the newsroom that one of her closest friends made while filming, Aiden Cohen, was eliminated after the Judges’ Houses round.
“Our conversations are like an open bar of free flowing gossip”, Marija admitted.
When asked what her favourite moment from the whole experience was, the singer revealed a curious detail- during the six-chair challenge, Marija got chair number three with L-Aħħar Bidwi, the same chair number as Season two.
The singer described this coincidence as “special”. “I will forever cherish the standing ovation I got after the performance”, she continued.
When asked who she thinks will win this Season of X Factor, Marija said that “there is the artist/group who will win… then there is the artist/group who deserve it”.
“Whoever it is, I hope they justly deserve and earn it”, the singer continued.
When the newsroom asked the singer if any popular personalities reached out to her, she revealed that Roberta Metsola and Cyrus Engerer were amongst those who praised her rendition of “L-Aħħar Bidwi”.
The singer also admitted that she did not expect to receive a message from Tamara Webb and an email all the way from Germany from singer and song writer Walter Micallef.
Marija promised to “continue promoting the Maltese language” through her art, and keep on “working on original material, be unpredictable, and forever be her authentic self”.
A petition to reinstate Marija to the X Factor Live Shows is currently making rounds on social media platforms and has garnered over 100 signatures.
