A Maltese ITS student recently came first in an international cocktail competition held in Bled, Slovenia.

Luke Cauchi took part in this year’s 17th Edition of the G&T Cup, alongside 31 other participants, all hailing from different countries.

Cauchi had to prepare an original recipe from the ingredients supplied by the organisers, and he went a step further by reciting a poem in front of the panel of judges to explain and present his cocktail.

The delicious cocktail also came with an edible, sustainable straw.

Cauchi’s winning cocktail – named Reunited – was based on Hendrix Gin, Triple Sec, Passion fruit syrup, and an infusion of green tea, cardamon, and mango tea, which were presented in the form of ice balls. For the garnish, Luke used melissa, cucumber, and an edible flower.

Mr. Richard Pons, ITS Beverage Lecturer, mentored both Luke Cauchi and a previous G&T champion, Nicole Galea, who won the competition in 2018.

Croatia’s Osijek school was placed second while Prsove Slovakia was placed third respectively.

The competition is organised by the students who attend the Slovenian Hotel Tourism school.

Would you try Cauchi’s mouth-watering cocktail if presented with the opportunity?
