‘Where The Rainbow Starts’: Banners Promoting Malta Popped Up At Sziget And They’re… Interesting

Just in case you weren’t aware, a massive music festival called Sziget is currently taking place in Budapest, and chances are you know at least one (1) Maltese person present there. Probably more.

But your friends Nick and Michela aren’t the only Malta representatives showing up at Sziget this year.

Amidst the tents and the stages and the food stalls (oh my), banners promoting Malta as the ultimate holiday destination have made an appearance. And honestly we’re ready to pack our bags and visit Malta, even though we’re already here.

The banners promote our island as a party haven and a place that celebrates diversity

The banners, all 14 of them, include picturesque images of Malta and brightly coloured panels featuring enticing phrases.

The rainbow coloured banners (although not following the correct ROGYBV pattern which gives me anxiety), would make anyone want to come on down.

Our island is well known for our sunny climate and wild nightlife

It is technically somewhere you could sunbathe all day and party all night. Ibiza who?

A place where thrill-seekers will always have something to do, the sun is always shining, and we’ve got more free concerts and festivals than you could imagine. Or want.

But of course, the cherry on the cake only makes an appearance at the end

Two bright banners carrying the phrases “bi in love” and “unicorn’s island.”

I only have two comments:

  1. ‘Bi in love’ doesn’t make any sense. I get the bisexual/LGBTQ+ friendly island reference. But ‘bi’ sounds like ‘bye’, not ‘be’. So that’s annoying.
  2. Who is this singular unicorn and why does our island belong to it?

And also, isn’t the world over unicorns yet? Because I sure am.

Anyway, Malta is clearly great. The destination of all destinations. It is where the rainbow starts. Can’t wait for all the Sziget-ers to stop by.
