31-year-old Andre Calleja from Cospicua has been remanded in custody after being accused of threatening a priest with scissors after he offered him a slice of pizza instead of the groceries he asked for.

Inspector Omar Zammit charged Calleja for his actions on 18th August at around 4pm at St Teresa church. Apart from this charge, the police also charged him with carrying a knife and violating court orders.

The defence maintained that the accused is aware enough not to talk to witnesses and that he hasn’t use illicit substances in a long time. The prosecution, on the other hand, said that this occurrence shows that his rehabilitation process is not going as well as they would want. The defence requested bail but the prosecution objected because it did not trust Calleja.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella denied the request for bail on the grounds that the victim still has to testify.
