‘A Judge Must Be Free From Political Pressure’ Student Reads From Robert Abela’s Thesis
Maltese law student Laura Chetcuti Dimech read from Prime Minister Robert Abela’s thesis where he specifically spoke about the need for the judiciary to be free from political presusre.
“A judge must be free from political or other pressures,” Chetcuti Dimech read during a protest in front of the law courts.
“This includes during the judicial protest which must be free at every stage from interference from the executive branch of government in order that justice is done but not only seem to be done.”

“If you want to read it, this thesis was written by Robert Abela,” Chetcuti Dimech said before the crowd erupted in claps and cheers.
Chetcuti Dimech delivered a powerful speech at a protest organised by students in solidarity with the judiciary. She took the opportunity to highlight the hypocrisy and irony of Abela’s thesis around a week after he attacked magistrate Gabriella Vella for the timing of the Vitals inquiry conclusion, accusing her the conspiring against the Labour Party.
His thesis is entitled Judicial Accountability and Impeachment.
