Champion Boxer Scott Dixon Living ‘Irregularly’ In Malta Since 2008, Court Hears

Champion boxer Scott Dixon, who is facing charges over fake medical certificates used to breach bail conditions, has been living “irregularly” in Malta for years, the court heard on Friday.
An Identità representative testified that Dixon last renewed his Maltese residence permit in 2007, meaning his stay became irregular from 2008 onwards. The revelation came during ongoing criminal proceedings against Dixon and psychiatrist Mark Xuereb. Both men deny the charges.
The case centres on medical certificates that Dixon allegedly presented to excuse repeated failures to sign his bail book. Dixon has been out on bail since a 2009 cannabis haul, released against a €15,000 deposit and a €25,000 personal guarantee.
He later sought variations to his bail conditions, but the court was told he repeatedly failed to meet them.On Friday, the Identità official confirmed that after Dixon’s 2009 arrest, when police seized his documents, he never renewed his residency status. The boxer has therefore been living in Malta without a valid permit for more than 15 years.
The criminal proceedings continue. Magistrate Leonard Caruana is presiding. Police inspector Darryl Farr is prosecuting. Lawyer Matthew Xuereb appeared for Xuereb, while Franco Debono and Anthea Bonnici Zammit represented Dixon.
