Numerous police officers testified regarding the forensic evidence from the crime scenes on the fourth day of the high-profile jury trial of Robert and Adrian Agius, Jamie Vella, and George Degiorgio, as reported by Malta Today.

Jurors on Monday were shown photos of the car that journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was driving when she was killed by a bomb. The damage was extensive and clearly visible in the photos.

One of the police officers testified on Monday saying that through forensic investigation, they identified that the killers placed the deadly bomb containing sharpeners under Caruana Galizia’s car seat for maximum impact.

Investigators testified that searches were conducted across multiple sites, including farms, garages, and boats linked to the suspects, yielded guns, cartridges, cash, passports, and evidence suggesting possible use of a silencer.

The defence lawyers are Nicholas Mifsud for Adrian Agius, Ishmael Psaila and Amadeus Cachia for Jamie Vella, Alfred Abela and Rene Darmanin for Robert Agius, and Noel Bianco and Leslie Cuschieri for George Degiorgio.

Jason Azzopardi and Therese Comodini Cachia are assisting the Caruana Galizia family.

“The police official explains that ‘sharpeners’ were used to ensure that the bomb would cause maximum damage,”Helene Asciak, sister to Caruana Galizia, wrote on her social media as she shared some of the key moments from the court session. This post was later shared by Matthew Caruana Galizia, the late journalist’s son, on his Facebook timeline.

After the latest court session, the defence have asked the judge about preparations for Thursday’s sitting since it coincides with Workers’ Day and the Labour Party is planning a mass rally in Valletta that day. The judge told the lawyers that she will try to schedule a sitting for the day, however, if the celebrations make proceedings difficult to follow, she will stop the session midway through.
