First Criminal Court Hearing Of El Hiblu 3 Commences Tomorrow
The first Criminal Court hearing of the El Hiblu 3 is scheduled for tomorrow at 9am.
The court will be presided by Madam Justice Consuelo Scerri Herrera and it is the first hearing since the Attorney General issued a Bill of Indictment in November 2023 against Abdalla, Amara, and Kader.
Many have argued that the three are being wrongly accused as they exist in limbo with a list of life-changing charges looming over their heads.
In fact, a group of around 80 Maltese activists flew up to Brussels to protest these charges alongside MEP Cyrus Engerer.
While en route to Malta, on a boat with over 100 other people escaping the harrowing situation of civil unrest and human rights violations, the captain who initially rescued them attempted to return the people to Libya.
Abdalla, Amara, and Kader acted as translators and mediators between the frantic passengers and crew. They were able to get the captain to turn back to Malta and upon arriving, they were met with authorities and arrests. They were just 15, 19 and 16 years old at the time.
Almost five years later, they’re still facing charges ranging from acts of terrorism to illegal arrest and private violence that have been largely deemed unfounded by locals.
Do you think these charges should be dropped?
