Gozitan Man Gets 12 Years For Raping His Ex-Girlfriend’s Two Children
A 60-year-old man from Gozo will be given a 12-year prison sentence for raping two minors who are the children of his former partner.
Before this case, the Rabat resident was also accused of raping his own daughter; but later, she withdrew her complaint.
In a hearing this morning, the man confirmed his admission in front of Judge Galea Sciberras.
Sciberras explained to him that a plea agreement had been reached between the defence and the prosecution for a 12-year prison sentence.
Initially, the prosecution requested a life sentence after the Attorney General upgraded the charges by two degrees. This meant the man was facing a double sentence.
However, the defence noted that the indicated sentence should be corrected, and the Attorney General agreed with the accused since the offence was not indicated as a repeated one.
The Court will deliver its sentence on the 30th April.
The accused was represented by lawyers Josè Herrera, Charlon Gouder, and Alex Scerri Herrera.
