A major drug bust in Gozo has led to the arrest of a 45-year-old Croatian man and the seizure of 76 kilograms of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of around €9 million.

Police investigations and surveillance into suspicious activities between Malta and Gozo culminated on Tuesday when authorities stopped a vehicle at Mġarr Port in Gozo. A search of the car uncovered 18 kilograms of the suspected drug.

The operation didn’t stop there. Officers then searched the suspect’s residence in Xagħra, finding another 58 kilograms of suspected cocaine, along with multiple vehicle registration plates from different cars.

The case has been handed to Magistrate Dr Simone Grech LL.D, who appointed a Magisterial Inquiry into the incident.

This is one of the largest drug seizures in recent Gozo history, underlining the ongoing efforts of Maltese authorities to crack down on cross-island trafficking.
