‘Grow Up’, Court Tells 24-Year-Old Student Who Crashed Just Outside St. Julian’s Police Station With Cocaine And 70 Grams Of Cannabis In His Car

A surreal scene unfolded just outside the St. Julian’s police station last weekend when a young man crashed metres away from a number of officers… with 70 grams of cannabis and some cocaine in his car.

In a hearing yesterday evening, the 24-year-old student – whose name cannot be named by court order – was found to have crashed outside the station on Sunday and approached by police officers, who reportedly smelled “a strong whiff of cannabis” coming from his car. A small, unknown amount of cocaine was also discovered, with the young man being accused of being in possession of cannabis and cocaine which were not for personal use.

The whole thing was only made worse by the fact that all of this happened within 100 metres of a place frequented by young people… and made even worse by the fact that the 24-year-old was carrying a sharp object or a knife without a license, and relapsing.

As reported by the Times of Malta, the young man pleaded not guilty, and while the prosecution (led by AG lawyer Julian Scicluna and assisted by inspector Roderick Attard) objected to the defence’s (lawyers Arthur Azzopardi and Jacob Magri) request for bail because of his involvement in other incidents (including driving without a licence), the court, led by Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace, eventually did grant him bail against a €20,000 personal guarantee.

However, the young student wasn’t just instantly let off the hook, with the court telling him to “grow up and mature”.
