The second hearing of the Bidnija murder compilation of evidence is took place today in the Valletta law courts, as reported by Times of Malta.

Mohamed Hamdan, 46, stands accused of the murder of Jean Paul Busuttil after a traffic incident on a country road in Bidnija.

Recordings of phone calls to emergency lines 112, 119 and 199 are being played in court.

In a first call to 112, a warden requests a Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) to the scene on Triq il-Bidnija.

In the second call, also to 112, a voice can be heard saying “Send an ambulance to Bidnija, they’re shooting at us”.

“An emergency, an emergency send help please,” a very emotional voice pleads in the third call.

A voice on the fourth call: “Hello, in Triq il-Bidnija tal-Qasab as I call it. Send police and an ambulance… there’s been a shooting”.

On the 119 system, in a call, the LESA warden can be heard frantically saying, “he’s shooting the other guy, come bloody hell!”

In another call, the warden can be heard telling the police, “Jesus Christ, I ran up so bloody quickly,” after telling them that there has been a shooting and he is safe. He also gave them the location and the person on the other line responded saying an RIU is on the way.

Defence lawyer Mario Mifsud continued, saying he believes there is one missing recording where his client, Hamdan, called LESA before the “big incident.”

The prosecution is being led by Attorney General lawyers Kaylie Bonett and Mauro Abela, assisted by Inspector Kurt Colombo Zahra. The defendant is being represented by lawyers Mario Mifsud, Nicholas Mifsud, and Edward Gatt. Meanwhile, the victim’s family is represented by lawyers Arthur Azzopardi, Jacob Magri, and David Farrugia Sacco.
