Lidl Worker Caught With Car Full Of Stolen Goods In Żejtun
A 23‑year-old supermarket employee was caught with a car filled with items stolen from a Lidl store in Żejtun, a court heard on Friday afternoon.
Police were alerted after Lidl management reported that a vehicle found near the store appeared loaded with boxes possibly containing stolen goods. Officers identified the car’s owner as Jake Carabott from Kirkop—who worked at the Żejtun branch according to Times of Malta.
Upon questioning, Carabott immediately confessed to stealing the items. Further investigation revealed he had already sold one of the stolen items, a television. The TV was recovered and returned, and the remaining unopened products were handed back to Lidl. Carabott also reimbursed the supermarket for the TV.
In court, Carabott pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated theft and handling stolen goods. The presiding magistrate, Claire Stafrace Zammit, handed him a three‑year probation order.
Prosecutors included AG lawyer Martina Calleja, and the police case involved Inspectors James Mallia and Wayne Bonello. The defence was represented by Maroushka Debono
