Man Admits Harassing And Stalking Helena Dalli In Chaotic Court Hearing

Grima Hammett appeared before Magistrate Leonard Caruana under arrest, after posting several videos on social media in which he accused Dalli of being “a traitor of Malta” and questioned others about whether they believed she was corrupt.
Police Superintendent Frankie Sammut told the court that Dalli found the videos on TikTok and felt harassed. When questioned by police, Grima Hammett refused to take the content down. His legal aid lawyer told the court that the accused was pleading guilty because his faith prohibited him from lying.
Superintendent Sammut argued that a prison sentence would not be productive, and instead recommended a treatment order, probation, and a restraining order for Dalli’s protection. He stressed the need for accountability when making public accusations, especially without evidence.
The defence supported this approach, noting the accused was also responsible for caring for his elderly mother.
During the hearing, Grima Hammett went on a religious and political tirade, calling for “justice for the country,” criticising Dalli, and opposing same-sex parenting. He handed out “Jesus loves you” stickers in court and insisted he was morally upright.
When asked if he regretted his actions, he initially refused to express remorse but eventually relented. The court sentenced him to a two-year probation order, a treatment order, and a restraining order. He was also ordered to remove the offending videos from Facebook.
As he exited the courtroom, he shouted, “Thank you, Jesus! God bless you! May the evil eye leave this room!”
