In Żebbuġ, Gozo, two men were brought before the Gozo court due to a violent altercation.

Paschalino Cefai, 43, the homeowner, faced off with Viktor Markovic, 39, a Serbian national, who allegedly tried to rob Cefai’s residence.

According to the charges, Markovic attempted to burgle Cefai’s house last Wednesday. In the process, he was accused of wielding a weapon, damaging the property, issuing threats to Cefai, and violating previous court orders.

The situation, however, escalated when Cefai reportedly defended his home by biting Markovic’s nose during their scuffle.

But the charges against Cefai didn’t end there. He was also indicted for severely injuring Markovic, and in a different event, he was accused of slightly injuring Markovic’s partner, intimidating and threatening her, as well as causing damage to her vehicle.

During the court hearing, Inspector Bernard Charles Spiteri provided an account of the events to Magistrate Bridgitte Sultana, shedding light on how the biting incident occurred amidst their struggle.

Both accused individuals pleaded their innocence in the face of these allegations.

Cefai was released on bail with conditions requiring a €1,000 deposit and a €5,000 personal guarantee. Meanwhile, Markovic’s bail was set with a deposit of €1,000 and a substantial €14,000 personal guarantee.

Cefai is defended by lawyers Franco Debono and Charles Mercieca. On the other side, Markovic has Lawyer Joseph Grech advocating for him.
