Man Jailed For Nine Years And A Half After Raping And Prostituting 14-Year-Old Girl

A man has been sentenced to nine and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to raping and trafficking a homeless 14-year-old girl, in a case that has shocked the country.
Ismael Alirou faced a string of serious charges, including raping the child, participating in sexual activity with a minor, selling her into prostitution and living off the earnings of prostitution as reported by Times Of Malta.
The prosecution and Alirou had agreed on a plea bargain, asking the court to jail him for nine years and six months and issue a restraining order to protect the victim. The court accepted the request.
While sentencing, the court took into account Alirou’s clean criminal record, but also stressed the seriousness of the offences. It was also noted that a jury had not yet been appointed, saving further legal costs.
Alirou was also ordered to pay €1,908.96 in court expenses, and a three-year restraining order was issued in favour of the victim.
The case was presided over by Mr Justice Neville Camilleri.
