Mosta Man Accused Of Injuring And Threatening His Ex Granted Bail

A man was granted bail after being accused of slightly injuring and threatening his estranged wife.
According to The Times of Malta, the woman reported her husband on 8th April at the Domestic Violence Unit, as informed by Police Inspector Antonello Magri. He went on to explain how there were several domestic violence reports made both by the husband and the wife against each other.
The incident took place in their matrimonial home in Mosta which had been put on sale due to their process of separation.
The wife’s risk assessment result returned as “severe danger”, which Lawyer Lennox Vella, contesting the man’s arrest, described as “sexist”. “I saw her on the video with her hair extensions and she came out of the door with her extensions still in place,” he argued, insisting that a risk assessment should not lead to a person’s arrest.
The woman’s lawyer, Charles Mercieca, offered a different version of events saying that the husband was convinced that his wife held something that belonged to him in her purse and after tugging onto it, the woman fell to the floor and hurt herself.
The court proceeded to validate the arrest and the mother of the accused was willing to act as a guarantor against €50,000. The court granted the man bail against a €1,000 deposit and a €15,000 personal guarantee.
