The prosecution is asking for life imprisonment and a fine if Portelli is found guilty by the jurors. In 2013, any cannabis possession was illegal. The law changed in 2021 which allows people to carry up to seven grams outside their home for recreational purposes.

When Portelli’s residence was raided in October 2013, they found less than seven grams of cannabis resin. The police pressed on the charge following the information shared by Portelli’s clients.
