Nazzareno Dalli’s attempted murder hearing revealed that one of his victims, a 12-year-old girl who remarkably survived the assault,  was stabbed no less than 16 times by the man.

Dalli is facing charges of attempting to murder his former partner’s two daughters, aged 12 and 15, according to MaltaToday.

“The girl had to be intubated to keep her breathing,” he told the court, according to Mifsud said that the teenage girl’s heart and lungs had been penetrated, and parts of her spleen and liver were torn. Additionally, there were puncture wounds found in her left kidney and pancreas, along with fractures in ribs on the left side.

During the compilation of evidence against her former partner, the victims’ mother testified to having left her home on 9th March at around noon to go shopping, adding that all seemed normal prior to her departure.

She described the state of shock she was in upon returning home to find her son outside on the street, covered in blood and police stationed outside her residence preventing her from entering the building.

She told the court that after spending a night of relentless crying at the Mater Dei Hospital, medical staff told her it was a “miracle” her daughter survived.

The woman emphasised that Dalli never possessed a key to the house, even during their time in a relationship, presuming that somehow, he must have made a copy.

When questioned about her relationship with the accused, she stated that she had made multiple attempts to terminate it.

According to her testimony, she had ended the relationship on December 29, 2023, but Dalli persistently harassed her thereafter.

The most recent encounter she had with him prior to the stabbing involved him banging on her front door in the middle of the night, yelling and hurling insults at her, the testimony revealed.

In his testimony, police inspector Ian Vella said that the accused expressed disbelief over what had happened to the girls, stating that he loved them as if they were his own daughters.

He told the court that in the police questioning, Dalli revealed that he was working as a security guard at Osiris bar in Marsascala.

The prosecution was led by Attorney General lawyers Etienne Savona and Manuel Grech, alongside police Inspectors Ian Vella and Wayne Camilleri.

Dalli was represented by lawyers Arthur Azzopardi, Nicholas Mifsud, Mario Mifsud, Jacob Magri, and Franco Debono.

The subsequent hearing is scheduled for next month.
