Serbian Man Admits To Being Paid For Arson Attack At Santa Luċija Car Fire
Goran Poljakovic, a 39-year-old Serbian national, has confessed in court to setting fire to a car in Santa Luċija on the instructions of an anonymous “third party,” according to TVM.
Poljakovic, who is employed as a driver, told the police that he had been paid by an unidentified person to commit the crime. His motivation for accepting this illegal job, he confessed, stemmed from his addiction to heroin and the desperate need for money to feed his drug habit.
In addition to setting the woman’s car on fire, Poljakovic also admitted to damaging two other vehicles parked nearby, causing around €2,500 in damages.
The court sentenced Poljakovic to two years in prison, suspended for four years.
Acknowledging Poljakovic’s struggle with addiction, the court also issued a treatment order to help him overcome his drug problem.
As part of his sentence, the court ordered Poljakovic to compensate the victims for the damages inflicted, as well as to cover court expenses.
