Watch: Five Maltese Arrested Over Shocking Police Assault Dragged To Court
The five people who were filmed assaulting police officers in Ħamrun in a shocking video which went viral over the weekend were this morning brought to court, dragged through the main entrance as a crowd of onlookers watched on.
Elton Anthony Borg, Erica Borg, Kurt Borg, Redeemer Aquilina and Christian Mansueto, whose ages range from 23 to 46, have all pleaded not guilty to the four separate crimes they’ve been charged with: violence and threats against public officers, resisting arrest, stopping officers in their duties, and causing slight and grievous injuries.

There was heavy police presence in Valletta, with TVM filming a deputy Commissioner, a superintendent, six inspectors and a number of other officers (two to escort each of the five accused) all present.
Technically, they also face two other minor charges – the actual traffic offence that sparked the whole incident.
To make matters even worse, CCTV cameras at Elton Borg’s Ħamrun restaurant have already been removed, and police officers were unable to obtain footage of the incident from them. One of the accused had already disposed of his clothes by the time officers came to arrest him, and one of the assaulted officers also lost a bodycam in the altercation.
Defence lawyers included Franco Debono, Arthur Azzopardi, Mario Mifsud, Jacob Magri, Matthew Xuereb, Charles Mercieca, Alex Scerri Herrera and Nicholas Mifsud.
Lawyer Hermann Mula, a former police inspector, is representing the two police officers who were assaulted.
