Watch: Soldier Charged With Involuntary Homicide In Valletta Fatal Car Crash Granted Bail

A 23-year-old soldier was granted bail after being charged with involuntary homicide and drink driving over a fatal car crash in Valletta, according to media reports.
Benjamin Chetcuti was driving a Subaru Impreza that crashed into a parked Ford Fiesta. 62-year-old Mildred Azzopardi got trapped between the two vehicles and died on the scene.
Mildred’s husband, Alfred Azzopardi, was sitting in the parked car and is now in critical condition following the crash, according to ONE News. Alfred is a former player of Malta’s national football team.
Chetcuti – a Paola resident – denied the charges and his defence, led by lawyers Franco Debono, Arthur Azzopardi, and Jacob Magri, filed a request for bail.
The prosecution objected, citing concerns over potential tampering with evidence and the seriousness of the case.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Court granted bail under several conditions, including that he sign in daily at the Paola Police Station, post a €2,000 deposit, and provide a personal guarantee of €20,000.
