‘I Didn’t Come To Kill You Because I Wanted To See You Suffer’: Baħrija Murder Suspect To Partner

New information from court of the Baħrija double murder case reveals that at 6am on the morning of the murders, Karmenu Ciantar was complaining about his partner, Agnes Mifsud’s granddaughter.
Mifsud was called to testify and revealed that the two of them had an argument which ended with her telling him to leave the house. She saw Ciantar grab his shotgun and leave, Times reported live from court.
At around 4pm, his partner grew worried as she hadn’t heard from him all day. She called him a number of times with no answer, but eventually he picked up.
“I killed your rabbits,” he said, “I killed them, didn’t you go see? One in the van and the other in the car.”
At first, she didn’t understand but then she hung up the call in shock. Mifsud called back and asked if he had been to the police.
“I didn’t come to kill you because I wanted to see you suffer,” he replied.
Screaming in shock, Mifsud tried calling her son and son-in-law, but never got through to them. At that moment she thought “He did it.”
Lawyer Anthony Vella from the Office of the Attorney General, together with Inspectors Kurt Colombo Zahra, Wayne Camilleri, and Cheyenne Mangion, led the prosecution.
Lawyer Francesca Zarb appeared for the accused, while lawyers Mario and Nicholas Mifsud appeared for the victims’ relatives.
