A Blooming City: Valletta Green Festival Returns To The Capital Next Month
Spring is the season of colours. Whether it’s red poppies or yellow daisies, the bluest of seas or a burning sky at sunset, Mother Nature’s beauty is in full force.
In conjunction with European Green Week, Valletta Cultural Agency brings the beauty of nature to the capital with the Valletta Green Festival and this year’s edition will be held between the 3rd and 7th of May.
The details were launched today at a press conference attended by Minister for the National Heritage Owen Bonnici and Minister for Environment Miriam Dalli.
The Valletta Green Festival will be home to a fantasy garden in Pjazza San Ġorġ, creating a magical trail in one of the Capital’s largest open areas. It will also host several stands from Ambjent Malta, ERA, EWA (Water Be the Change), Project Green and the Valletta Design Cluster. Wasteserv’s roadshow truck will be in Triton Square, while in Old Theatre Street there will be several stands by ECO Market.
A flash mob by Dancel Dance Studio will be performing in various streets and squares around Valletta.
Minister Owen Bonnici stated how the Valletta Green Festival is an annual event that is closely associated with environmental awareness and sustainable living. He further emphasised the importance of providing citizens with a platform to engage with environmental policies and initiatives through culture.
“It is also encouraging to see various stakeholders participating in the festival. This clearly shows the importance of collaboration and community involvement in the heart of our capital City,” he said.
Minister Miriam Dalli said that through several entities within her Ministry they will continue to raise more awareness among people about waste management, environmental protection, green spaces, and the conservation of resources.
“Such activities serve as a platform to send a strong message in favour of the environment and sustainability while providing more information about the work being carried out by various entities while the visitors have the chance to learn more about sustainable practices,” Dalli stated.
Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef stated, “The Valletta Green Festival is one of the main open-air events by the Valletta Cultural Agency. The festival clearly shows the Agency’s commitment to raise a culture of environmental awareness not only by means of its projects and buildings but beyond”.
