After Garbage Fires Ignite In Tarxien’s Streets, Public Urged To Separate Waste

The Local Councils’ Association has urged residents to separate waste as thoroughly as possible, to prevent heightened risk of fires breaking out.

“These fires can spread rapidly, cause extensive damage and even result in loss of life. To mitigate this danger it is crucial for every individual to play their part in maintaining a safe and clean environment,” said an LCA representative.

This LCA advice was issued after yesterday’s events where large parts of Tarxien’s Triq id-Dejma was littered with scattered trash fires.

A witness on the scene reported to Malta Daily that they had seen the fire begin inside the waste management truck – which prompted the sanitation workers to dump the burning garbage onto the road.

The Civil Protection Department was contacted to put out the fires, and photos shared by the LCA show the extent of the damage caused – though fortunately, this damage did not result in any injuries.

“We firmly believe that every resident’s commitment to proper waste segregation and disposal will significantly reduce the occurrence of waste-related fires in our communities.”

“By working together, we can create a safer environment for ourselves and future generations.”
