City Theatre Spotlight: Kicking Off The Malta Jazz Festival

Three additional concerts taking place at the City Theatre in Valletta will feature a trio of international artists whose names resonate within the jazz music scene.

On the 11th July, indulge in an enchanting evening of classic swing and blue note jazz with the New York Blue Note Quintet. Led by the remarkable trumpeter Joe Magnarelli, accompanied by the skillful pianist Jeb Patton, the talented bassist Fabien Marcoz, and the accomplished saxophonist Dmitry Baevsky, this quintet will offer their unique interpretation of the genre, leaving you mesmerised by their collective artistry.

The following evening, on the 12th July, prepare for a piano-driven performance by the renowned French pianist and composer Laurent Coq. With over 25 years of experience, Coq’s mastery of the ivories is unmatched.

In this special performance, he will be joined by the talented bassist Yoni Zelnik and the exceptional drummer Fred Pasqua, forming a trio that will effortlessly weave melodies and rhythms into a harmonious tapestry of sound.

Concluding the series of concerts at the City Theatre on the 13th July is the trumpet virtuoso Raynald Colom and his Quintet. With a reputation that precedes him, Colom has established himself as a highly regarded trumpeter in the jazz scene, showcasing his mastery of the Flamenco trumpet.

Having collaborated with esteemed artists such as Paco de Lucia and Manu Chao, Colom’s performance promises an unforgettable fusion of jazz, pop, and Flamenco influences.
