Delving Into Heritage: An Immersive Journey Through San Girgor Feast Traditions

The Minister for National Heritage, Owen Bonnici and Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli visited activities related to the folkloristic and traditional aspects of the traditional feast of San Girgor in Żejtun and Marsaxlokk.

For another year, they launched a cultural and folkloristic program associated with the traditional feast of San Girgor. This feast is celebrated every Wednesday following the celebration of Easter. Besides its religious connections, the feast of San Girgor is also well known because it marks the first harvest.
This year’s programme included a concert inside the Church of San Girgor in Żejtun by KorMalta under the direction of Mro Riccardo Bianchi, which took place yesterday evening.
The procession was held from the Chapel of San Klement to the Church of San Girgor, with various stands featuring cultural heritage elements near the church. Għanejja Garden and the Commanders’ Garden came to life, including a band to enhance the atmosphere and enjoy the view from the belvedere. In the afternoon, the festivities continued along the Marsaxlokk waterfront with the participation of various singers and guitarists.

This traditional feast of San Girgor was organised by the Directorate of Culture, the Żejtun Local Council, and the Marsaxlokk Local Council.
