The Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, has launched the 2025 edition of Heritage Malta’s Summer Student Programme, an initiative set to offer a season rich in learning and inspiring educational experiences for children and young people with a passion for our national heritage.

“Running from July to September across Malta and Gozo, the programme features 17 educational workshops designed for children aged between 6 and 13. These are inspired by the 2026 Malta Biennale and its engaging theme: Cleanse, Know, Transform,” Minister Owen Bonnici said.

He explained that the programme has been developed as a cultural and creative lead-up to the Biennale and reflects key ideas such as environmental care, sustainable living and social connection. Dr Bonnici praised the leadership and staff of the Agency, noting that such initiatives are instrumental in strengthening Malta’s cultural ecosystem.

“The Malta Biennale is now a permanent fixture in Malta’s cultural calendar, a bridge between the past and the present, reinterpreting our history to help us better understand today and ourselves. Art is the tool through which we can discuss our surroundings within the context of heritage. This summer programme by Heritage Malta aims to prepare tomorrow’s generations to understand their environment through art and to appreciate the ongoing relevance of our museums as sources of knowledge for society,” Mario Cutajar, Chairman of Heritage Malta and President of maltabiennale.art 2026, stated.

The programme is open to all children and youths who hold a Heritage Malta Student Passport, which can be obtained free of charge through all schools in Malta and Gozo. Tickets include entry for one accompanying adult and can be purchased online or from any Heritage Malta site.

Early booking is recommended due to limited spaces for each activity.

Activities will take place in iconic locations such as MUŻA, the Inquisitor’s Palace, the Grand Master’s Palace, Ġgantija Archaeological Park and Ta’ Kola Windmill, offering children a unique opportunity to connect with their heritage while imagining a better future.

The programme leaflet can be downloaded from here and printed copies will be available at all Heritage Malta museums and sites.
