This July, Dwejra Tower in Gozo is transforming into a hub of art and nature. The Unfinished Art Space, together with the Mahalla Festival are combining creative arts and environmental themes in one event, the 2024 edition of Beyond What Drifts Us Apart.

This event, supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe program and Arts Council Malta, promises a unique blend of interdisciplinary, site-specific projects with an exhibition and various workshops taking place between 20th July until 28th July.

Curated by Elyse Tonna, who is also one of the co-curators of this year’s Maltese representation at the Venice Biennale, the exhibition aims to shed light on the interactions between human and non-human communities, with a particular focus on ecological and historical implications.

This year’s edition features a diverse group of six artists from Malta, Portugal, and Poland, including Keit Bonnici, Maia Martinha, Jamie Barbara, Justyna Olszewska, Florinda Camilleri, and Isaac Warrington.

Each artist will present works that explore themes like ecological thinking, frontiers, and post-fossil fuel narratives.

The project not only enhances local art but also fosters a dynamic dialogue across cultures, courtesy of its association with Istanbul’s Mahalla Festival where visitors can immerse themselves in workshops, exhibitions, and discussions that aim to provoke thought and inspire a sustainable future.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on 20th July between 4 and 8pm promising to showcase the transformative power of art in addressing contemporary issues.
