Honouring Heritage: Eighteen Professionals Awarded Heritage Skills Certificate
In an official ceremony, the Minister for National Heritage, Owen Bonnici, presented the Heritage Skills Certificate to eighteen professionals working in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration.
This is the second issuance of the Heritage Skills Certificate by the Restorers Warrant Board, bringing the total number of recipients to twenty. The certificate aims to regulate activities related to the profession of conservators and restorers, as stipulated by the Cultural Heritage Act, Chapter 445.
Minister Bonnici explained that the abilities of these professionals are being recognised through the Heritage Skills Certificate granted by the Restorers Warrant Board.
Addressing the conservators and restorers in the presence of the Restorers Warrant Board, Minister Bonnici emphasised that conservation and restoration work of culturally valuable items must be carried out with the best methods, materials, care and ethics.
The Cultural Heritage Act requires that such work can only be undertaken by those who hold a Warrant or Heritage Skills Certificate issued according to the Act’s provisions.
Minister Bonnici concluded by thanking all those who contributed over the years, particularly the Board’s Chairperson, Dr. Joseph Buttigieg and the rest of the Board, for their instrumental role in recognising these professionals through the awarding of the Heritage Skills Certificate.
