The Symposium will be providing participants with the opportunity to discuss current topics within the culture and creative sector.

This will be held at the University of Malta Valletta Campus, between the 26th and 27th October 2022.

But what is this new opportunity all about?

It will consist of a platform for discussion and debate on the trends, challenges, and opportunities of the artistic sectors in Malta and the international contexts that shape their dynamics.

An artistic programme/networking reception is also planned for the evening of the 26th October at 7:30pm, and will also be held in Valletta.

The Symposium will focus on various themes, with three overarching subjects, which are Cultural Rights, Sustainable Development within the Arts, and the Status of the Artist.

The themes and subjects of the Symposium will be explored through a number of keynotes.

Simon Alexander Ong, a personal development entrepreneur, coach and public speaker will be delivering the opening keynote.

Whilst another three notable members of the international cultural and artistic sector will be delivering keynotes in relation to the 3 overarching subjects.

Dr Milena Dragićević Šešić, founder of the UNESCO Chair in cultural policy and management and head of UNESCO chair in interculturalism, art management and mediation will be addressing cultural rights.

Shain Shapiro, PhD, founder and executive chairman, Sound Diplomacy and executive director, Center for Music Ecosystems will tackle sustainable development in the arts.

Whilst, Sarah Whyatt, former director of PEN International’s freedom of expression programme, will speak on the status of the artist.

Apart from keynotes, there will also be panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities with the engagement of international and locally based speakers.

The Symposium will be an opportunity for those attending to exchange knowledge on the ever-changing characteristics that make up the artistic sectors.

The aim is to collectively explore future directions for the sectors, in the face of global challenges while considering the connections between art and social well-being.
