Malta Pavilion Wins Bronze At World Expolympics In Osaka

Malta’s Pavilion has bagged Bronze in the People’s Choice Award at Expo 2025 in Osaka. Out of 158 participating countries Malta was voted one of the top three favourites by visitors at the World Expolympics.
The Gold went to the Czech Pavilion while the Silver went to the Baltics Pavilion.
Designed by architect Edwin Mintoff and his team the Malta Pavilion has been attracting major attention since the Expo opened in April. More than 600,000 visitors have already stepped inside the circular-fronted structure which takes inspiration from Malta’s Neolithic temples and the island’s central role in the Mediterranean.
Under the theme “Catch The Wave” this project has been a true labour of love—celebrating Malta’s ancient roots while looking boldly toward its innovative and sustainable future.
The facade reflects scenes from Malta’s past and present from fortifications and churches to underwater treasures and animated storytelling. The design was already shortlisted as a finalist for the World Expolympics before clinching Bronze.
The Bronze People’s Choice Award is not just recognition of a building but a celebration of Malta’s story told through design creativity and cultural pride.
What other Maltese designs do you think deserve world recognition?
