Mediterrane Film Festival In Full Swing As Malta Celebrates Cinematic Excellence
The Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, visited the final preparations for the Mediterrane Film Festival before it officially kicked off last Saturday. He was accompanied by the Film Commissioner, Johann Grech.
With a century-long legacy in film production, Malta continues to strengthen its standing in the global film industry. The Mediterrane Film Festival also serves as a platform to further attract international film productions to Malta.
Minister Bonnici praised the preparations for the festival and expressed his gratitude to all those involved in ensuring its successful delivery.
The festival officially opened on Saturday, 21st June, with a screening of Gladiator II, a film that employed a significant number of Maltese and Gozitan crew members during its filming in Malta in 2023.
The opening event at Fort Ricasoli marked the beginning of 55 screenings scheduled throughout the festival, which continues until 29th June. The programme features a vibrant mix of arthouse films, blockbusters, local productions and timeless classics, showcased in some of Malta’s most iconic venues, including Fort Ricasoli, Laparelli Gardens, Spazju Kreattiv and the Embassy Cinemas in Valletta.
The Mediterrane Film Festival is also hosting a number of masterclasses and panels, featuring prominent speakers from the global film industry.
