Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici, together with Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri, have launched a new financial aid scheme aimed at supporting voluntary organisations. This scheme provides monetary assistance specifically to help cover security and public order services for events organised within various local communities.

A total of €600,000 will be invested over a two-year period. This aid supplements the existing support provided to festa organisations and their celebrations during the festa season.

This scheme is the result of joint collaboration between LESA and the Arts Council Malta.

“This investment will benefit numerous voluntary organisations and therefore also communities across Malta and Gozo. Public events organised by voluntary groups will now be eligible for financial support to help cover the costs of hiring services related to order maintenance and security,” Minister Bonnici stated.

This collaboration between the cultural and enforcement sectors highlights the vital role that order-keeping services play in the successful organisation of high-quality public events.

“The government is directly addressing the needs of event organisers in terms of security and logistics costs, making these events more accessible to all,” Minister Bonnici added.

“Through the launch of this €600,000 fund, we are creating a structured approach to provide essential security and order services for events organised by local NGOs and voluntary groups. This initiative lifts the financial burden off these organisations, while also strengthening the presence of law enforcement in our communities,” Minister Camilleri explained,

This scheme replaces a similar initiative launched earlier in this legislature, which had a two-year timeframe that has now come to an end.
