Opera Nova Project Brings Mozart’s The Magic Flute To Teatru Manoel

Emerging opera talent will take centre stage at Teatru Manoel this September as the Opera Nova Project presents a new production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
The performances, set for 25th and 26th September, will feature a cast of 26 local singers alongside one international guest artist, offering Maltese talent a rare chance to step into principal roles.
The production is directed by Denise Mulholland with musical direction by Gillian Zammit, and will see a specially created orchestra formed in collaboration with the Fames Institute in Macedonia.
This unique ensemble will unite 25 young European musicians with nine emerging Maltese players under the baton of conductor Philip Walsh.
Opera Nova Project will also host a forum on 17th September at Teatru Manoel, bringing together cultural leaders and members of the public to discuss how to attract younger audiences to opera.
The Magic Flute will be sung in German with English subtitles, with spoken dialogue in English. Tickets are available from Teatru Manoel’s box office.
Will this production inspire more young audiences to embrace opera?
