Pope Francis has been admitted to hospital where he will have an operation on his intestine.

According to the Vatican, the procedure would require that the Catholic Church leader be put under with general anaesthetic.

The surgery is expected to take place at around noon today, and recovery is expected to keep him in hospital for “some days”.
