Public Consultation Begins For Valletta’s First Management Plan
The Ministry of National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, under the guidance of Minister Owen Bonnici, has launched a public consultation for the inaugural management plan of Valletta, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This consultation period, beginning 20th December, 2023, and concluding on 22nd February, 2024, invites stakeholders to review and contribute to the draft plan for Valletta.
Minister Bonnici presented the draft, developed over several months by a multidisciplinary team of experts. Crafting a management plan for Valletta is a mandatory step as per UNESCO’s guidelines for World Heritage Sites.
This groundbreaking Management Plan for Valletta is structured into seven chapters, with the final chapter focusing on action plans for upcoming years.
During a press briefing, Minister Bonnici highlighted that the plan prioritises Valletta’s outstanding universal values,’ which underscore its global heritage significance. This includes its authenticity, integrity, and both tangible and intangible cultural elements. Central to this plan is the community, aligning with UNESCO’s recommendations. The plan aims to preserve Valletta’s historical identity while promoting its role as a dynamic, living urban centre, a trait it has preserved since its foundation.
