Less than a week remains before the return of The Three Palaces, Early Music and Opera Festival, and anticipation among art enthusiasts is growing.

Featuring some of the best local and international artists hailing from different disciplines, including film, opera and oratorios, choral music, recitals, puppetry shows, and more.

Two of the most prominent international guests featuring in this year’s programme are critically acclaimed mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly and award-winning vocal ensemble and world-leading commissioner of choral music ORA Singers.

The Sarah Connolly Recital on the 2nd November will be the second concert of the festival at the Museum of Archaeology’s Gran Salon, as it follows the premier show Quatour

During this recital, Dame Sarah Connolly will take us on a musical journey through the world of lieder, accompanied by Malcom Martineau on piano. Lovers of classical music can look forward to an exquisite repertoire of pieces composed by Schumann, Hans Christian Andersen, Brahms, Zemlinsky and Mahler.

A pre-concert recital by local soprano Nicola Said will introduce the audience to the lushness of the Vienna Secession with a song cycle by composer Richard Strauss.

If you followed the Three Palaces Online Festival in 2020, you will surely remember the magical voices of the ORA Singers choir. They had presented an amazing virtual performance at St Peter’s Church at Vauxhall in London. Re-live this beautiful performance below:

The ORA Singers will return to The Three Palaces Festival, this time with a live concert on the 3rd of November at the beautiful St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta. They will celebrate the music written during Queen Elizabeth I and II’s reigns. The repertoire was chosen specifically to honour the memory of Queen Elizabeth II following her recent passing.

The ORA Singers will interpret the poem penned by Simon Armitage and set to music by Toby Young – Floral Tribute. The programme also includes Tallis and Byrd’s musical polyphony, works by Harry Escott and Sir James Macmillan, as well as other contemporary works inspired by the Renaissance period.
