Watch: Maltese Teacher Turns Her Classroom Into A Maltese Wonderland

Junior school teacher, Faye Micallef-Grimaud, transformed her classroom into a hub celebrating Malta’s rich culture.

Micallef-Grimaud is an educator at St Michael Junior School which set off on a year-long journey into Malta’s history, culture, and community through the theme “Small Island, Big Stories.”

“I wanted my classroom to reflect that spirit. Every corner has been designed to spark curiosity and pride, so that the children feel surrounded by the colours, stories, and traditions that make Malta unique,” Micallef-Grimaud told Lovin Malta.

Footage of the classroom shows key parts of our culture like the Maltese door and ħabbata (door-knocker), a festive piece of decoration called “Liedna”, national holidays marked on a wall calendar and much more.

Micallef-Grimaud said that the goal isn’t just to decorate a classroom, but to create an atmosphere where students can learn, imagine and connect with their identity in an exciting and meaningful way.

“I believe it’s so important for our children to know where they come from. Our culture and heritage are rich and beautiful, but sadly, interest in them has been fading. I want to change that. I want my students to walk into class and immediately feel curious, inspired and proud to be Maltese,” said Micallef-Grimaud.
